Health & Nutrition
Supporting healthier rural communities through awareness, nutrition, preventive practices and community-centred action.
VVD's Health & Nutrition programme aims to strengthen awareness and encourage practices that contribute to healthier families and communities, while connecting nutrition with food security and locally available resources.
Healthier Families. Stronger Communities.
Health and nutrition are closely connected with the overall well-being and resilience of rural communities. Awareness, preventive practices, nutritious food and community participation can contribute to healthier households and stronger communities.
VVD's programme framework places emphasis on health awareness, nutrition, community health and preventive health interventions.
Nutrition is also connected with VVD's wider work on food security and sustainable livelihoods. Through kitchen garden promotion, families are encouraged to cultivate seasonal vegetables and locally suitable crops using organic and low-cost farming methods.
Good Health Begins With Awareness & Nutrition.
Healthy communities depend not only on access to services, but also on awareness, nutrition, preventive practices and the ability of families to make informed choices about their well-being.
At household level, access to diverse and nutritious food is particularly important. VVD's existing kitchen garden interventions help families improve food security and dietary diversity through locally appropriate cultivation.
