Good Governance & Community Institutions

Strengthening local leadership, participatory decision-making and community ownership for stronger, inclusive and self-reliant villages.

VVD works with Indigenous communities to strengthen local self-governance by building the capacity of community institutions and encouraging transparent, inclusive and accountable development processes.

VVD community governance meeting

Strong Local Institutions. Stronger Communities.

VVD strengthens local self-governance by supporting Indigenous communities to enhance leadership, participatory decision-making and community ownership of development processes.

The programme works with Village Authorities, women, youth and Churches to promote governance that is transparent, inclusive and accountable.

Through training, workshops and community dialogue, VVD strengthens the ability of local institutions to plan, manage resources, maintain records and take greater ownership of community development.

Development Works Better When Communities Lead.

Strong community institutions enable people to participate in decisions affecting their villages, resources and development priorities.

Conflict Mitigation & Inter-Village Cooperation

Rather than acting as a mediator, VVD serves as a facilitator, encouraging communities to focus on what is right rather than who is right. Traditional knowledge, oral histories and customary landmarks are documented and discussed through open community consultations.

Community-led boundary mapping and consultation

Building Consensus. Strengthening Cooperation.

VVD facilitates community-led processes for addressing territorial and boundary-related issues while respecting Indigenous governance systems and traditional knowledge.

Customary landmarks, oral histories and traditional knowledge are jointly documented and mapped using GPS technology. Maps are then reviewed through open community consultations.

Decisions Built Through Dialogue & Consensus.
